Final Toiles

With my bomber jacket I was still a little confused as to how to join the knitted ribbing to the cuffs, hem and collar. So I sought out a jacket at a vintage store.

Images above are from a jacket found in Portobello Antiques store in Boston, Lincolnshire, UK.

Have my shape finalised for the shirt dress, but changed my mind on the size of the collar. The right hand side of the collar I feel is too small and the left too big! So next one will be an inbetween size. I'm doing this using a 2 piece shirt collar style. With 2 separate plackets joined onto the front of the dress.

The Saatchi Gallery

I wanted more inspiration ideas for patterns, fabrics and cutting lines! So I went to the Saatchi Gallery and there was the most perfect exhibition on that fitted perfectly with my concept. It was an exhibition called ' Gesamkunstwerk: New Art'. I love the visible brush strokes that you can see.

Toile Progress Tutorials

From toile progress tutorials, it was decided that the colour schemes would pretty much just swap over. So my over-sized shirt dress is now going to be completely in the print and the bomber jacket will mainly be in the black with a couple of sections being in the print also. Still trying to find a nice jersey for the leggings - but all of them seem to be really thin or plain colours.

These above images are from working on my pattern for my bomber jacket.

First toile, didn't like the way the armhole and shoulder seam seam sat so re-adjusted as sewed up again as below.

                      Toile for my leggings

Toile for my shirt dress, from tutorials, it was said that the way the arms fell didn't quite sit right. There was so much volume that it was all falling into one point making it lay inwards towards the body. I need to curve this line off and shave of 15 cm off the edges.

Time to make the adjustments and fingers crossed start on my final toile. For the bomber jacket I'm adding in wadding to each panel so a couple more of those whole toiles will need to be made I'm sure.

Resolving Designs

This week in class we're carrying on with silhouette and cuff shapes etc. Once these are done though, they need to be turned into resolved designs. This something I always struggle with so I decided to go out into the shops at look at their construction.

Draping on the stand

I do struggle to sit and stare at a piece of paper and feel that the ideas will come flowing into my head! Draping on the stand really works for me ...

Doing this has helped me get shape ideas from and I know that by getting these pictures printed out and sketching on top of them I'll come up with even more. This has also given me an idea of how much wadding I want to include in my final garment.
